Blackbird Writing Group is a place to expand your writing, explore your writing goals, and find the raw truth within your story. We offer many ways to support this process: on-going classes; laser focused workshops; weekly writing labs; one-on-one coaching and more. Our goals are simple—we want you to write. To write with confidence. To explore and learn more about the craft of writing.
Once your work is completed, Blackbird gives practical guidance on: finding an agent; making literary allies; writing resources, grants and awards; all with the aim, if and when you choose, of allowing your work to have impact, shift perceptions and become a part of the powerful collective movement towards change.
We want to help the artist, the writer within you to take flight. To write freely. To write courageously. To write against the odds and against the lies you’ve been told. To know your words have come to you for a reason.
Your story is waiting to be told, sometimes patiently, sometimes exploding, angry, destroying your life until it is written.
Your story can come to you in a myriad of ways. However it introduces itself to you, your job is to find a way to welcome it. To not turn away. To not abandon it. We believe a story will wait forever to be told. Will wait even after you leave this planet. Will wait in the hope of another writer who may take up its mantle. Perhaps you are telling one of these forgotten stories, perhaps you are telling your own, perhaps it is a combination of all of these.
